After graduating from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley with a Bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Studies along with a Texas Early Childhood-6th grade Generalist/ESL Teacher Certification, I began my teaching career as an ESL Interventionist in the charter school system. Two years later, I became a 3rd grade ELAR/Social Studies teacher. After three years, I decided to pursue a career with Jubilee Academies. I began working for Jubilee Leadership Academy in December of 2019 as a 3rd grade ELAR teacher under a bilingual certification waiver. Three months later, I challenged both state exams to become bilingually certified, and I received my bilingual certification in February of 2020. This is my third year working for JLA, and being a part of such a wonderful team, has inspired me to pursue a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. My expected graduation date is in April of 2022, after which I plan to pursue the practicums required by UTRGV to challenge the Texas principalship exam in the summer, in hopes of soon being able to join the JLA administrative team as a dean or assistant principal.

I am currently part of the JLA Leadership Team, and the experience has given me insight into the work and commitment that comes along with being a campus leader. My experience as a classroom teacher has also inspired me to advocate for the needs of many struggling students and teachers because I too have experienced those overwhelming days that lead to teachers leaving the education field and students losing sight of the importance of a quality education. My career is one that I treasure and value because it gives me the opportunity to give my students the foundation necessary to be successful in the future. This next step will hopefully allow me to do the same but on a greater scale. Being a mother of three, attending school full time, and teaching during a pandemic has definitely not been easy for me, but I am committed to achieving this goal, and I must say that my support system has been the fuel that’s kept me going. Mrs. De La Fuente, our campus principal, has been a great inspiration and cheerleader for me throughout this entire process. My family, as well, has been a great help, and, of course, my strength through it all. The finish line seemed unattainable at one point, but today, victory is near, and I am so excited and grateful for what is to come!
