Time Management - The Lesson

Time management is one of the first skills we develop to help us lead ourselves. Follow  the directions for this lesson. The Parent Guide will give you prompts for discussion.

Have your student read the following:

Time management begins with the understanding that we cannot manage it, so we must manage ourselves. This is called self-management. How we use our time determines our ability to succeed. Managing time effectively allows us to do what we enjoy doing. Time is the most precious commodity on Earth, and activities, people, and stresses of life will make demands on us for the use of our time.

Parent: Discuss each bullet point before preceding to the next bullet point strategy.

Here are some self-discipline strategies that will help us be efficient in managing ourselves:

Have your student read the six strategies below:

  1. Do not try to do more than one thing at a time.

  2. Have the discipline to say no to anything that competes with your priorities.

  3. Do not put things off that you can do right now.

  4. Take short breaks from a task in order to refresh.

  5. Show up early and never be late.

  6. Each night, make a to do list and schedule then stick to it.

Parent: (Refer to parent guide for prompts to now discuss each strategy)
